The successful candidate will teach in the field of Islamic Studies, including early and classical Islam. A research focus on one or more of the followingareas would be particularly welcome: Qur’anic Studies, discursive theology (kalam), Islamic philosophy, Sufism, or Islamic law. A regional specialization in the Turkish or Persianate world, or alternatively South Asia, would also be desirable.

Areas of particular strength include the study of conviviality and conflict among religions in multi-religious and secular societies, and the study of religion in the arts, literature and film.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 6 or Grade 7 scale, currently £30,870 –
£45,336 per annum, plus £2,323 London allowance per annum. Benefits include an annual season ticket loan scheme.
